Neighbor backed into my 'very' well maintained KF. Needless to say, not happy. And given the strange colour-changing properties i'm likely to believe it would be impossible for a replacement door to be resprayed to match as it varies between silver and gold depending on time of day and how you look at it

What are the chances of finding just a replacement door? Fortunately the damage is just there, but a respray would mean doing that whole side of the car. If on the other hand a replacement door can be sourced thats the same colour, it should bolt up and look close enough to its original condition. There's only a little bit of damage that goes beyond the door area, small enough for me to not feel the need to respray the car if a replacement door in the exact same colour can be sourced

Sedan and wagon doors are the same - but the glass is not but can be swapped.

Earlier today I saw a wagon for wrecking in "Pewter".

I had a similar event happen with my 1990 R31 Skyline wagon(rear doors different to the much more numerous sedans) about 9 years ago, just 3 days after a lengthy period of refurbishment/reregistration.

After managing to find a good matching door for $70 from the local self help wrecker, I drove around with the damage for a few months until I could enlist the help of my brother to do the swap over.

In the interim, I took "cash settlement" on the at fault drivers insurance, and made a tidy earn.

If you are prepared to wait long enough, I'm sure a suitable 2nd hand replacement will appear somewhere.

I will keep a lookout whenever I check the parts listings I regularly visit until you advise an outcome.

Earlier today I saw a wagon for wrecking in "Pewter".

Even if the wreck's nominal colour is the same, it's likely to be noticeably different on the OP's car due to minor tint differences between the original paint batches. Moreover, differences in garaging & general care over the cars' lives are liable to have exacerbated those differences.

That car is still for sale. The price is right, but as its in a different state to me I can't just pop over and have a look
The owner has sent some photos of what it was like before it was parked under a tree, it used to look very good and it does look like the same color. Now though? who knows for sure, really need to see in person to be sure
If the paint codes are the same (HH) is that all that matters or are there other variations i.e. HH of year 98 is different to HH of year 01, or other differences between cars etc?

I am tempted to just roll the dice, but before that I first need confirmation that a wagon door will infact fit. I will be swapping over the interior trim, glass (as mine has factory tint so if nothing else its worth it for that) and anything else worth keeping

I have 2 other questions. I've never transported a car remotely, so if I do decide to get it, whats the typical going rate to transport a car from Victoria to Brisbane/Gold Coast?
And secondly, how do I get my current door open? as the handle doesn't work. I want to inspect around the door sil and make sure everything else is in order

Breaking into cars/hotwiring is one aspect of mechanical repairs that I am very unfamiliar with.

I don't want to lead you astray as far as prices go as I have had no involvement for over 5 years now.

Furthermore, I was only ever involved in jobs terminating in Sydney, so I have no direct knowledge of Melbourne to Brisbane rates.

All that I can suggest is that they seemed to be competitive and reasonable.

Just give one of their terminals at either end a call.

I have the same colour (Kashmir HH) and had a moron SUV driver pull out of Bunnings into my rear passenger door/boot panel last year. The damage wasn't as bad but the repairer managed to get a perfect repair and paint match/blend into the front passenger door and rear panel. I checked it in the sun and I can't tell unless I run my hand over the surfaces. I'd get the door repaired given how good your paint looks from the photo.

Usually car's are about $400-700 to ship interstate on backload but you would need to contact companies directly as it depends on if the car is able to drive.

I would try the interior handle first, then If that didnt work I would cut through the interior door trim to get to the handle workings and bend the cable back so it works. Obviously you need an open door to change it with a new one.

Parts are easy and cheap so breaking something wont matter anymore.

The ONLY difference in the metal pressing for doors is the L-W series have an extra beam in the door, and no holes for the lower trim to be clipped in. So otherwise, go for wagon, sedan, it won't matter. only the glass is different between the two.
